Author/Illustrator
Ashley Key is a children’s author with a unique background in satellite communications and adult education. While building her career in the satellite communications field, she also taught HiSET and GED courses on the side, supporting adult learners as they returned to the classroom and worked toward new opportunities.
Her debut picture book, Dash and the Lights in the Sky, reflects her love of science and storytelling. Inspired by the real northern lights and her family’s husky, Dash, Ashley creates poetic, STEM-rich stories that make big scientific ideas feel magical and accessible for children ages 0–8.
Today, she travels to schools, museums, libraries, and bookstores leading immersive STEM storytimes that blend read-alouds, live science demonstrations, aurora crafts, and movement-based learning. As a mom of two, Ashley is passionate about sparking wonder in young readers and showing families that curiosity, creativity, and science can thrive in everyday moments.
